Established in 1963, the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce has been driven by the sole ordinance of advancing bilateral trade relations between the United Kingdom and Malaysia. Over the past six decades, the BMCC has been a catalyst in providing businesses with networking platforms, branding and exposure, international trade services and industry advocacy.
What the chamber is for
Tracing back to the 16th century, Britain and Malaysia share a long history of diplomatic ties and successful trade relations. The BMCC is a part of this history.
To be a key partner in fostering UK-Malaysian trade by serving our expansive network of members via comprehensive high-quality services and solutions representing the interests of British and Malaysian business communities and to act as the facilitator of bilateral-trade between our two nations.

A brief history of our origins
A Brief History of Our Origins, as their own Who We Are page tells it. The dates and the sentences are theirs. Nothing between them has been filled in.
Enterprising British merchants in port towns are the first to establish chambers of commerce, in Penang and Singapore. Similar chambers follow in Selangor in 1903 and Perak in 1911.
The British Trade Representative Association is conceived, tasked with promoting British goods and services in Malaya, after the amalgamated States of Malaya Chamber of Commerce is no longer representative of British commerce.
On 26 March the British Trade Representatives Association is initiated, an indirect result of the diversification of Malaysia’s trade.
The BTRA becomes the British Malaysian Industry and Trade Association.
The name changes to the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, to emphasise the reciprocal nature of trade between Britain and Malaysia.

Farhan Zamri leads the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce with a focus on strengthening the UK and Malaysia business corridor, growing member value, and expanding the Chamber’s influence across key industries and stakeholders. He works closely with the BMCC Board, members, and partners from both the public and private sectors to advance bilateral trade, investment, and talent development. He brings over 16 years of experience driving industry development, strategic partnerships, and regional capacity building, formerly from the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers and, before that, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
